French elegance, from town to town

In almost every French town stands a “Hôtel de France”. Some are true flagships of French — even international — hospitality; others, more discreet, carry on an art of hosting handed down from generation to generation.

Our portal brings these houses together and showcases them, offering the discerning traveller a single starting point for an exceptional stay.

The Angers wine list

This wine list illustrates the golden age of the Hôtel de France in Angers, then run by the Bouyer family in the sumptuous building erected between 1907 and 1912 by architect Henri Palausi, a former student of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Equipped from the outset with electricity, a telephone and a lift for its fifty-five rooms, the hotel stood opposite the Saint-Laud railway station and welcomed travellers in search of the very best of Anjou.

Between the wars, the wine list was the showcase of a grand house's refinement. This one, decorated in Belle Époque style with putti, barrels and vine branches, celebrates the wines of Anjou and the Loire Valley — Savennières, Coteaux du Layon, Saumur — a winemaking heritage that is still the pride of the region.
